Hello! My name is Meaghan, aka May Jean Cosplay.
I’m a Korean-American cosplayer from Washington State. Outside of my profession as a cardiovascular specialized Registered Nurse (MSN, RN), I am a passionate mixed-media artist/costume maker. I made my first costume back in 2005 but have been challenging myself with more complex projects for over a decade. My work is inspired by video games, anime, TV/film, pop culture, and historical fashion.
Most of my craftsmanship experience has been focused on fabrication, sewing, and painting, but I’ve experimented with many skill sets: EVA foam, thermoplastics, hand embroidery, fiber arts, electronics (LEDs and animatronics), mold-making and casting, 3D modeling and printing, leathercraft, metalwork (blacksmithing and silversmithing), shoemaking, and more. I consider myself a generalist and love to dive into new learning experiences whenever possible.
Over the years, I have grown to become an experienced Master-level craftsmanship and performance competitor. I’ve had the honor of competing and judging in many cosplay and craftsmanship competitions at this point! Check out my Resume for a list of placements and events I’ve been a part of.
Due to my passion for sharing knowledge and enthusiasm with the community, I’ve spoken on numerous panels at major events like C2E2, ECCC, NYCC, RCCC, Sakura-Con, GeekGirlCon, and more to come. Topics have ranged from cosplay sportsmanship, cosplay competitions, various art and craftsmanship topics, and more.
